The County of Orange Employee Assistance Program, Resources for Living, is designed to help employees and their family members maintain a positive work-life balance and serve as an additional support when life matters interfere with performing at their best at work and at home.
Experiencing stressful times, supporting a family member, or just trying to balance it all? Resources for Living offers many support options to meet you wherever you are. Services are confidential and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What's New in 2025
6 counseling sessions at no cost to you
You, everyone in your household and adult children living away from home up to age 26, can access up to six sessions (previously three sessions) per issue, each year. Work with a counselor in person, over the phone, or through tele-video.
Counseling sessions are available either in-person or virtually and provide support for all situations, including:
- Moving and life changes
- Anxiety, stress, and depression
- Relationship advice
- Work/life balance concerns
- Caregiver stress
If additional emotional support is needed after the 6 no-cost counseling sessions, check with your health plan for behavioral health coverage details.
Take advantage of 2025 enhancements, including:
- Ability to research providers and schedule appointments online.
- Assistance locating a provider who has availability and is also in-network with your health plan
- Chat therapy – send secure texts to your counselor. One week of chat therapy is equivalent to one of the six no-cost counseling sessions.
- Video sessions – you can schedule to meet online with a counselor for a 30-minute televideo session

Relationships come in all shapes and sizes; you may be in one with a spouse, children, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Resources for Living has resources and tools to help you build, repair, nurture and strengthen our most important relationships
Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and most of us ‘get the blues’ sometimes, for many, these feelings don’t last very long. If you have an anxiety disorder, the anxious feelings may not go away or when the feelings of depression affect aspects of your life, Resources for Living can help.
Grief and Loss
Loss is always hard. You may have regrets. And maybe you didn’t get to say goodbye. It’s important to take care of yourself during this time. It can help to learn more about the grief process and how to cope.
Domestic Abuse & Violence
If you or someone you care about is being undermined, degraded, controlled, or in any way emotionally or physically abused or assaulted, it’s never okay. Get support. For an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Substance Use Services
Know that substance use affects people from all walks of life. And like many chronic illnesses, addiction to opioids and other substances is treatable through a combination of medication, therapy and ongoing support. It takes strength and support to stop and live in recovery.
Adapting & Embracing Change
No matter how good, change sometimes instills anxiety, discomfort and fear of the unknown. Learn how to adapt more readily to the decisions you make – and what life throws at you.
Time Management
Yep, 24 hours goes fast. Learn how to better manage your time so you can get the most out of it – even a little “you” time. Slow down in this sped-up world.
Mind Companion
This is digital self-paced mental well-being program can help manage depression, anxiety, stress, substance misuse and more. You’ll be guided through on-line sessions that include videos, interactive questions, and relaxation exercises. You can track your mood and see your progress over time.
Talkspace
You can communicate with a therapist using secure text, audio or video messages through Talkspace. Communicating with a therapist via Talkspace counts towards your 6 no-cost visits. Check out the FAQ for more information.
