The Orange County Department of Child Support Services Invites You to Become a Volunteer Interpreter!

This is an excellent opportunity for you to help families become financially self-sufficient.

The mission of the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is to enhance the quality of life for children and families by establishing and enforcing court orders for the financial and medical support of children in an effective, efficient and professional manner.

DCSS is located at 1055 North Main Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701

Volunteer Duties Include:

  • Greeting customers and answering general questions about child support (training provided).
  • Translating information for Spanish-speaking customers (training provided).
  • Helping Spanish-speaking customers to complete child support forms (training provided).
  • Provide administrative support for the DCSS Public Information/Outreach Division.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills
  • High school graduate and minimum age of 18
  • Volunteer 4 – 8 hours per week for 3 or more months
  • Ability to schedule volunteer hours Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Successful completion of background investigation and volunteer training

Volunteering as a Bilingual Interpreter is a great way to assist community members in accessing services to ensure the well-being of their children. In addition, volunteers are offered an opportunity to build resumes, develop career skills, network with professionals and explore career options.

Required Background Screening:

Prior to placement, applicants must undergo a background check that includes live scan fingerprinting. A Social Security number and a valid driver's license or state-issued picture identification are required to process the background screening. Background investigations may take one - two weeks to process.

Please email a cover letter or letter of interest and a resume to CountyofOrangeVolunteers@ocgov.com. Your cover letter or letter of interest must consist of one or two paragraphs describing your background and an additional paragraph that focuses on why you are interested in becoming a bilingual interpreter with the OC Department of Child Support Services.  In addition, please include the number of hours you can volunteer each week, the days/timeframes that you can schedule volunteer shifts, and the approximate start and end dates that you are available to volunteer.
