Help Provide Religious Services & Literacy Assistance to Incarcerated Adults

Welcome to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Inmate Services, Correctional Programs Unit. Your work as a volunteer in our jails is a valuable and integral part of our rehabilitation system for the inmates.

We are fortunate to receive the services of approximately 850 active volunteers each month. It is our policy to recruit volunteers without discrimination to race, religion, sex, creed, national origin, or political affiliation. While you must be 21 years of age to volunteer, we do not discriminate on the basis of age thereafter.

It is the direct policy of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to provide religious services and literacy assistance to all inmates who require them, and to do so in a way that assures the constitutional rights of each inmate. These assurances are delineated by legal parameters, namely Title 15, and restricted only by policies related to the safety and security of other inmates and staff in the normal operation of the specific detention facility.

For more information on becoming a volunteer for our religious and inspirational programs, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at (714) 935-7988 or gcneitzel@ocsd.org. To volunteer as a literacy tutor through READ/Orange County, an affiliate of the Orange County Public Library, please call (714) 566-3070 or email readoc@occr.ocgov.com.
